“Break my heart for what breaks Yours…”
These are words I have pondered for the past month as they have convicted me and in some ways haunted me. They are a portion of the lyrics of a praise song asking the Father to break my heart as His is broken. Do we really want to pray that prayer and ask that of God? It’s like King David asking, “Search my heart O God.” It is a scary but necessary proposition.
I did a little research on this line of lyrics to find out if the worship leader who sang it and the one who wrote it were the same and I learned that she is. New Zealander Brooke Fraser is one of the many talented worship leaders found in Hillsong and Hillsong United Worship’s recordings. This multi-talented singer/songwriter and worship leader has written numerous praise and worship songs in recent years and has two studio albums on her resume. Her most recent album is titled “Albertine”. The title cut tells about an orphaned Rwandan boy and his story’s impact upon Fraser to the point that she wrote a song to tell the world about the struggles of children like Albertine who are dispersed all over the world.
How gifted Brooke Fraser is! There are many more songs on this same album that give voice to what many Christ-followers are feeling as they walk with Christ in seeking to live faithfully. I would encourage anyone to check out this artist at www.brookefraser.com and to even go ahead and download her work from iTunes. May there be more “Brooke Frasers” counted among the faithful in the future.
